Top 10 Fundraising Mistakes

for a lively discussion about the fundraising process and how
to avoid the most common - and costly - pitfalls.

Picking the Right Investment Partner
Accepting an investment is a long term commitment for both entrepreneurs
and investors. Board meetings, strategy sessions, follow-on investments,
and general management issues can put a strain on relationships
at even the most successful companies to the point that many

a marriage. A team of seasoned venture capitalists and entrepreneurs
will provide insights on how to pick the best investment partner
for your growing enterprise.

Panel Session A1:
Funding in the Global Economy
For the past several years, the world's spotlight has shone brightly on emerging markets in Asia, in particular China and India.
The fast growing markets have attracted the attention of venture capital investors from both the U.S. and domestic firms.
Our panel of top venture capitalists and a serial entrepreneur will shed some light on the state of financing in today's global
economy.
While the panelists will speak broadly to the investment opportunities they see in Asia, the discussion will also focus on the
risks and rewards of overseas investing. How have domestic firms performed relative to U.S.-based venture capitalists who invest
abroad? What sectors and stage investments are attracting the most capital? How do cultural differences affect fundraising
dynamics? How do entrepreneurs and boards communicate and collaborate across country borders?
- MODERATOR: James Chapman - Managing Partner, Nixon Peabody
- Promod Haque - Managing Partner, Norwest Venture Partners
- Mark Lee - Co-Founder, President & CEO, DeviceVM
- Richard Lim - Managing Director, GSR Ventures
- Tae Hea Nahm - Founding General Partner, Storm Ventures

Panel Session B1:
Cleantech Visionaries: What's Next?
Cleantech has captured a significant amount of attention in recent years. Investors and entrepreneurs
have responded to the perfect storm that has brewed from the marked increase in energy prices, heightened
concerns over national security, improving cost economics for renewable technologies, and more widespread corporate
and government support for alternative energy. The solar industry alone has grown at an annual clip of nearly 50%
in the U.S., and the high cost of energy in some areas of the country has already made solar an affordable
alternative to the grid. Responding to the opportunity, venture capital firms have invested nearly $4 billion
in cleantech during 2007, with over $1 billion in the solar sector alone. Cleantech is here, but is it here to stay?
This session will explore the breadth of sectors within cleantech and the viability and sustainability of the space for
entrepreneurship and investment. Industry visionaries from various parts of the cleantech ecosystem will address the
following questions such as: Which clean technologies will emerge as game changers over the next decade and will they
be enough to solve the world's energy issues? Are certain cleantech sectors too dependent on transient macroeconomic
conditions to succeed? Is there still a place for new cleantech start-ups, given the long technology development cycles,
heavy dependence on an aging infrastructure, and entrenched entities that resist change? Many countries around the world
have adopted more aggressive alternative energy policies, what has held the U.S. back and can we catch up?
- MODERATOR: Jorge del Calvo - Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman
- Andrew Chung - Principal, Lightspeed Venture Partners

The Cleantech Entrepreneurial Experience
This session features a panel of cleantech entrepreneurs from a mix of companies that have proven
to be highly successful and high profile start-ups that show great promise. A variety of case
studies that span various cleantech sectors will serve to illustrate the first-hand challenges
and potential rewards of starting companies in the space, particularly for entrepreneurs who are
migrating from IT, and inspire others to follow suit.
The panel will address the following questions: what are the best entrepreneurial opportunities
in cleantech in 2008? What are some of the key challenges in discovering and commercializing clean
technologies? Do cleantech startups still have outsized upside potential? Many of the most successful
cleantech upstarts have featured entrepreneurs from the IT world. How have these tech entrepreneurs
managed to redefine and reeducate themselves?

Mergers & Acquisitions
While the volume of M&A deals have their cycles, in general, the number of cross-border transactions between the
US and other Asian countries will continue to rise in the coming years. With the continued strong growth of the
APAC economy and less optimal global IPO markets, M&A transactions offering immediate market access and expansion
are increasingly attractive. Transactions take a wide range of shapes and forms, such as China Mobile's acquisition
of Paktel, Hitachi's acquisition of M-Tech and various deals by global leaders such as Microsoft, Google, Infosys, TATA, etc.
This session will explore critically important issues regarding M&A transactions and opportunities for now and in the future.
Our leading M&A experts will discuss the challenges, risks and threats in U.S.-APAC mergers & acquisitions transactions, as
well as trends, opportunities and emerging arenas for the future.

Innovation in the mobile space is taking place at warp speed. All dimensions and facets
of the mobile ecosystem, including devices, operating systems, applications, and data access
platforms, are undergoing rapid transformation. New business models and paradigms that barely
existed a year ago are emerging to turn the industry on its head.

handset manufacturers, venture capital and the chipset industry, will examine solutions that are
available in the marketplace today and predict the state of the industry over the next five years.
Key areas covered include mobile WiMAX vs LTE (long term evolution), open operating system paradigms,
handset capabilities, location-based services for enterprise, M2M telematics, search, social networks,
IPTV, marketing models, payments and massive multi-player gaming.

Afternoon Keynote Panel - Capital Markets
The U.S. financial markets are experiencing extraordinary volatility and consolidation. In the last month,
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were rescued by the government, Lehman Brothers unsuccessfully sought a buyer and had
to file for bankruptcy, and Merrill Lynch, fearing it would be the next Lehman Brothers, was forced to sell to Bank of America.
Alan Greenspan has suggested that activity like this occurs 'once in a century'.
Is the worse yet to come? What does all of this mean to Silicon Valley, the mecca of innovation and entrepreneurship?
What does it mean for the overall global economy? What can we expect in this time of uncertainty? Through a fireside
chat session, the panel will discuss the current financial crisis and give us their insight into what we can expect in the
months to come.

Future of Entertainment
The prevalence of broadband and digitization of multimedia content have brought about
fundamental shifts in consumer entertainment. Consumers can create their own music,
videos and games, generating an explosion of accessible content.
Consumers are also given ever more control over the entertainment experience, including the
ability to dictate what they enjoy and when and how they want to enjoy it.
Traditional business models are facing severe challenges from emerging platforms that surfaced
in the world of digital media. Innovative leaders in the entertainment industry will discuss
technologies and business models that are revolutionizing entertainment today. They will also
offer a glimpse into the consumer entertainment experience of tomorrow.
- MODERATOR: Richard Ingrassia - Senior Research Analyst, Roth Capital Partners
- Bing Gordon - Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
- Dr. Buno Pati - Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Sezmi

Panel Session B4:
Virtual Reality
At a time when venture investing has turned stagnant, virtual worlds continue to be a hot target.
According to the leading trade media company on the virtual world, Virtual Worlds Management,
companies in this industry saw a massive $345 million worth of investment during the first half of 2008.
As a further sign of market legitimacy, large players are also vying for a piece of the action with recently
released virtual world offerings. Although once viewed as nothing more than an entertainment medium,
participants in the virtual worlds are increasingly finding their way into a plethora of online services,
including social networks and education. New investment has opened the doors for fresh business ventures
in marketing services, virtual goods, professional training, enterprise services, and many others.
This panel will discuss how virtual worlds are affecting traditional internet services and enabling never-before-seen
functionality, as well as what the future has in store for emerging business opportunities involving this "brave new world".
