Asia America MultiTechnology Association Appoints Serial Entrepreneur as New President

William A. Chen to Guide Silicon Valley Networking Organization’s 2005 Initiatives to Foster Growth of High-Tech Enterprises

San Jose, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2004) – The Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA), which has fostered business ties between the Silicon Valley and the Pacific Rim for more than 25 years, today announced the appointment of William A. Chen as president. Chen will be responsible for guiding the organization’s outreach and programs for high-tech business leaders and entrepreneurs who focus on creating new opportunities in the United States and Asia.

The organization also announced the appointment of Kyung Yoon as vice president. She will work with Chen to facilitate business with the Pacific Rim and continue to enhance the prominence and reach of AAMA in Silicon Valley and Asia.

AAMA recently launched its second chapter in Beijing, China, with an event at Beijing University that was attended by government officials, academic leaders and business executives from both sides of the Pacific.

"Our organization is growing very quickly, and 2005 looks to be a monumental year for AAMA given the renewed focus on entrepreneurship and global developments such as the rapid growth in China," said Stan Wang, chairman of AAMA. "William’s leadership and Kyung’s business insights bring the energy and commitment needed to make this year another banner one for our organization."

Chen has been involved in a variety of technology companies and startups in the last 12 years. He is currently the CEO of Accelergy Corporation, a materials development company he founded that formulates advanced materials for the energy and chemical industries. Prior to Accelergy, Chen was founder and CEO of OnePage, Inc., an enterprise software company that developed a suite of portal products and management tools for the corporate market. OnePage was acquired by Sybase, Inc. in 2002 and its technology infrastructure serves as the platform for the Sybase Enterprise Portal.

Before starting OnePage, Chen was one of the founders of Billpoint, Inc., which pioneered the concept of online person-to-person payments. Billpoint was acquired by eBay in 1999 as a payment solution for its online auction marketplace. Chen has also served in management positions at Excite, Classifieds2000 (online classifieds marketplace acquired by Excite in 1998), Andersen Consulting Strategic Services (Accenture) and IBM.

"I am honored to serve as president of such a reputable organization as AAMA. As the Asia Pacific region is key to the health of the global IT economy, I see AAMA playing an important role between Silicon Valley and Asia by providing the right connections and resources," said Chen. "I look forward to working with our talented directors and executive management committee to continue to bring more value to our membership base, both locally and globally."

Chen has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a BS in business administration (High Honors) from the University of Florida. He was honored as the 2003 Clark Butler Entrepreneur of the Year by the University of Florida. Chen serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida College of Business and on the Board of Directors of the Harvard Business School Asian American Alumni Association Club.

Yoon is a vice chairman at Heidrick & Struggles, and since joining the executive search firm in 1994, has played a key role in its expansion in the Asia Pacific region. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has been quoted in leading business publications around the world. A graduate of Baltimore’s Goucher College, Yoon received her MBA from the University of Chicago. She serves on the boards of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Women’s Leadership, Stanford University’s SPRIE Greater China Networks Project Advisory and Joint-Venture Silicon Valley.
